Our half day South Valley Tour Cusco begins with a short drive from Cusco city to Tipon. It is a small town home to an impressive archaeological site. The 239 hectare archeological complex is located on a hilltop overlooking the valley.
As agriculture was the prime source of income to Incas, here you will find plenty of terraces. Tipon is also home to a garden commissioned by Wiracocha.
The town is popular among locals for guinea pig (cuy). Often on weekends you will see many locals gathered in restaurants in Tipon to savour their favourite delicacy.
After touring the complex, we will be embarking on a drive further south along Oropesa. It is referred to as the bread capital of Peru. Over 85% of locals from the village are dedicated to baking bread.
We will then be visiting the only pre Inca site in the Cusco area, Pikillacta. This is a beautiful complex built during Wari civilization. In a recent excavation archaeologists discovered many stones with images of Maize carved on them along with their deities.
Once you have had your fill of this site, we will be driving further south to see the Sistine Chapel of America – San Pedro Apostol de Andahuaylillas. Although this white washed church may not seem so attractive on the outside, its interiors are awe inspiring.
After touring the church, we will be embarking on a drive back to Cusco. We will be dropping you off at Plaza Regocijo, a block away from Cusco’s main square – Plaza de Armas.
